How to Amp Up Box Brownies

Betty Crocker brownies. You know the ones. The irresistible batter, the crinkly top when cooked. I have never found a recipe that quite lives up to my favorite box brownies.

I recently figured out how to amp up a box cake mix and the result was so easy, but doubly delicious. Our friend the box brownie mix could use a little help, too.

For the brownies, it's all in the way they are baked.

This part, of course, needs no alterations
You're salivating right now, aren't you?

How to bake the brownies:
-Preheat the oven to 325 degrees (instead of 350)
-Line pan with parchment paper and spray paper with cooking spray
-Bake for the least amount of time recommended on the box. You may need to add 5 minutes if they are not set. This part may take some figuring out with your oven.

The result?

So many of the normal woes of brownies avoided.
Dull? No.
Crumbly? No.
Rock-like edges? No.
Rich, fudgy brownies. Easy to cut. Moist. You will get asked, "Where did you get these?"

And I tried these out on some brownie critics (members of the Flake family at Thanksgiving time). They've had a brownie or two (or three). Everyone agreed: box brownies at their finest.

  1. Looks pretty good, but I'm still not convinced. I'll need to try yours first hand...
