An ABC Christmas (by Haley)

Both of my grandfathers loved to write poetry. I am not very good, but here's my attempt at an ABC Christmas poem:

A is for the angel who appeared so bright
Telling of the Savior that was born that night.

B is for Bethlehem where Mary gave birth
To Jesus Christ the Lord, the Savior of earth.

C is for child who laid in a manger
With parents close to keep Him safe from danger.

D is for David's city, or Bethlehem,
Where Christ the Lord was born, our eternal gem.

E is for east where the star was in the sky
For people to know where the Savior did lie.

F is for "Fear not" said the angel so clear
To shepherds who learned of the Savior so near.

G is for gifts from the wisemen who believed
Gold, frankincense, and myrrh were gifts Christ received.

H is for heavenly hosts who did sing
of Christ the Lord Jesus our Savior and King.

I is for the inn where the three could not stay
So they made a manger for Jesus to lay.

J is for Joseph who took Mary to wife
He supported her as she gave Christ new life.

K is for King of the Jews, which was His name,
A light in the darkness is what He became.

L is for light Christ was to those who did hark,
This light gave others hope who were in the dark.

M is for Mary, the mother of the child,
Chosen to do God's will because she was mild.

N is for the new star shining up above,
Guiding the three wisemen to God's perfect love.

O is for obedience to the Lord's plan,
For Christ agreed to come to save every man.

P is for Prince of Peace, for which He was known,
Since He was humble and love was ever shown.

Q is for quiet as He entered this life,
Giving the world hope and freeing us of strife.

R is for rejoicing for this blessed son,
Who came to be the Savior for everyone.

S is for the shepherds who were sore afraid
When an angel appeared and told where Christ laid.

T is for tidings, good tidings of great joy,
For the Savior was born a sweet little boy.

U is for up which was the way that they did go
For the Savior to be born for all to know.

V is for virgin, chosen by our Father,
Mary was called to be Christ's earthly mother.

W is for wisemen who traveled from so far
To see the Savior because they saw the star.

Y is for young child who led the true way
For us to return to God's presence some day.

Z is for zeal shown in this Christmas story,
Lets share what we learned and give Christ His glory.
(Does anyone have any ideas for what to say for the letter X?!?!)
In the Spanish language "mas" means "more", so Christmas really means more Christ. Lets remember the true meaning of Christmas this year. Merry Christmas!

  1. Cool poem, Haley! You should turn it into a picture book:) As for the X, look in wikipedia under "xmas" and you may get some inspiration - it doesn't take Christ out of Christmas after all!
